Brief description
Germany is becoming urban, with more than two-thirds of the country's population now living in urbanised areas. On the one hand, the city is a breeding ground for cultural and social development, but at the same time it is a place of gigantic energy consumption, a producer of waste and a polluter of the environment. Against the backdrop of impending climate change and the agreed energy transition, cities and municipalities are now faced with the challenge of rethinking existing urban spaces and initiating corresponding processes. Possible implementation strategies for sustainable transformations of built and open space structures were examined from different perspectives in a series of lectures by experts Prof. Manfred Hegger, Dr. Ralf Schüle, Prof. em. Thomas Sieverts and Prof. Stokman, followed by a discussion. With contributions from the doctoral colloquium of the doctoral network (NSE network) held under the same name.
